Taking Another Look at Hackint0sh

Recently one of my readers in a comment asked me if it was possible to follow my steps for dual booting Linux and OSX86 using different builds. Well if the OSX86 installed properly to the MBR, then yes.

I thought about how much I love my Powerbook G4 and decided I’d take another stab at installing hackint0sh on my Toshiba using leo4all.

The ISO downloaded in < 2 hours at around 700 KBs, thanks to all of the generous seeders. I got leo4all Version 2 from thepiratebay which weighed about 3.4 GB and was well documented.

Installation was a snap, just like a real Mac, unfortunately I deliberated over kernels for a while and ended up choosing the wrong one. Once installation was complete it rebooted to a black screen.

I figured messing around customizing options before installing was a bad idea so I decided to leave everything default and it worked great, so I just left the customization for later.

I only have a few complaints about this build.

  • Wireless does not work (yet)
  • Sound required drivers
  • Graphics card will not play video using VLC from DVD
  • I was able to get the sound working beautifully with a quick search over at insanelymac.com.
As for the graphics and wireless issue : I may have to wait for my card to be supported, graphics probably has I driver I just haven’t found yet.
I no longer feel the need to dual boot operating systems. Once I get everything working on my hackint0sh I probably will not return to Ubuntu.
Unfortunately a lot of people aren’t as lucky for hardware support as I am - so to dual boot - follow these instructions. It doesn’t matter which build of OSX86 you choose, grub’s chainloader will work as long as you install OSX86 to MRB.
